Youth Career Fairs

WICHITA FALLS, TX -

Thousands of students across Texoma are taking part in youth career fairs.

The youth career fair is hosted by Workforce Solutions North Texas.

This is the first year Workforce Solutions has put on the course and it's the first time they're gearing their message to local 8th graders.

The theme of the fairs will be The Possibilities Are Endless.

Crystal Ojeda is a business services consultant with Workforce Solutions North Texas and says it's important to teach kids about financial literacy and social media sooner rather than later.

"A lot of them really don't realize how vulnerable they are with social media," Ojeda said. "Right now they're representing their school, their family, their church but eventually they will be representing their employer. So it's really important to be cognizant of what they post on social media."

Last week more than 1,000 Wichita County students took part in the career fair. On September 30, officials are expecting around 300 students from Baylor, Cottle, Foard, Hardeman and Wilbarger Counties. The career fair will be offered to students in Clay and Montague counties on October 7.

From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at each location, the students will hear a keynote speaker about career and technical education and will learn about dressing for success, financial literacy, social median and connecting education to work.
