Residents in Burkburnett are now eligible to have free smoke alarms installed by the fire department.
It’s all a part of the “We’re Out to Alarm Texas” program. The program is organized by the Insurance Council of Texas and Burkburnett is the 45th city to join. It started in 2005, but this is the first year the town is taking part in the program.
Firefighters will install the alarms at no charge to the homeowners. They will also do a safety check of the houses. Officials said they have 100 alarms in stock, but they can get more if they are needed.
Since the program started, 14,000 smoke alarms have been donated. Officials said this is a crucial effort to help save lives.
