Wildcats Finish Sweep of Ice Rays

Aleksi Poikola netted two goals, including the eventual game-winner in the first period, and two assists to lead the Wichita Falls Wildcats to a 7-1 win, finishing a two-game road sweep of the Corpus Christi IceRays at the American Bank Center Friday night.

Andre Pison got the scoring started with a goal just seven seconds into the Wildcats' first power play of the night, tipping home a Max Reisinger shot for a 1-0 Wichita Falls lead 8:11 into the first period.

Poikola struck next, one-timing home a shot from Matt Hines for a 2-0 lead at 12:08 of the first.

He would a short-handed goal on the backhand, from an assist by Garret VanWyhe about five minutes into the second, and assisted on a pair of goals in the third period.

Austin Albrecht, Ben Lown, Jake Dalton and Nikita Litviak also scored for Wichita Falls (7-1-1, 15 pts), who built their lead to three points in the NAHL South division over Topeka, who lost at Odessa Friday night.

Justin Kapelmaster stopped 34 of 35 IceRay shots Friday night, improving to 6-0-0 on the season.

The Wildcats will be back at home next Friday night, hosting Odessa for the first of two games that weekend. The puck will drop at 7:05 for both games, and Friday night is "Pack the House" night, with all tickets free.
