Burlington Brings Bucks, Shoppers

Burlington Brings Bucks, Shoppers

Burlington is officially here in Wichita Falls.

Store Manager Lawrence Mike says the support from Texoma so far has been overwhelming.

"We're excited to be a part of the community," Mike said.

After a successful soft opening on Wednesday, the store was busy from the moment doors opened at 9:30 am.

Shoppers have been waiting for this since January.

"{Customers} are saying things like, 'We're excited you're coming. I don't have to drive. We love your store, you have great stuff.' It's really fun," Mike said.

While Mike came from Boston to manage the Wichita Falls Burlington, the rest of the staff was hired locally. Burlington has hired 75 sales associates, and will add 15 to 20 more in time for the holiday bustle.

However, employees aren't the only ones excited. City officials will be looking to cash in on the additional business in Wichita Falls.

Henry Florsheim of the Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce says the more options, like Burlington, that Wichita Falls has, the more likely out-of-towners will come our way instead of to a different city to shop.

Sharla Miller, one of many shoppers at Burlington this morning, was thankful that she can now save money on both discounted merchandise and on travel expenses.

"There's a lot of baby stuff here, and there's stuff for my older child here. "I don't have to go anywhere else now," Miller said.

Burlington will have a family fun event from 10 am-2 pm on Saturday. The first 500 customers get a free Burlington tote bag, and there will be gift card giveaways every hour.
