The Wichita Falls Animal Services Center is inviting everyone to attend the first ever Barktoberfest!

It’s a community-wide pet adoption day.  The event is going on Saturday, October 24th from 10:00a.m. until 2:00p.m. at the Animal Services Center.  They are located at 1207 Hatton Road.

Barktoberfest will showcase adoptable dogs and cats from six different local rescue groups and shelters including Animal Services.  Also on hand will be community pet partner organizations with useful training and resource information to help new and current pet owners, Red River Hotdogs, Kona Ice, a variety of carnival games and activities for the whole family and a Halloween costume contests for pets and children starting at 11:00a.m.

This adoption event highlights the numbers of homeless pets in Wichita Falls and surrounding communities and the need for citizens to choose to adopt first and adopt locally.  Every month, Animal Services receives on average 350 dogs and cats.  While some are reclaimed by their owners, the majority of these animals remain homeless and in need.  Local rescue partners save lives by choosing some of these animals for their adoption programs, while others are placed up for adoption through Animal Services.  By working with community adoption partners, the euthanasia rate for Animal Services continues to decline.

Animal Services invites all citizens to stop by on Saturday and fall in love with and adopt a new family member.  In case of rain, all the rescue groups will be moved inside Animal Services with their adoptable animals.  The carnival games and costume contests will be cancelled due to space.
