Mustangs open season 22nd in NABC Preseason Top 25

Midwestern State tips off the season ranked 22nd in the National Association of Basketball Coaches' NCAA Division II Top 25 as released Tuesday afternoon.

The Mustangs are coming off of their seventh consecutive 20-win season reeling off a 22-9 record on the way to the South Central Regional for the seventh straight year beating 11th-ranked Metropolitan State (Colo.) 58-56 in the opening round.

MSU returns eight letter winners and two starters off of last season's quad led by senior guard Bretson McNeal, who paced the Mustangs scoring 15.9 points per game in 2014-15 knocking down triples at a 42.3-percent clip.

The Mustangs are one of eight teams from the South Central Region to receive mention in the poll joining No. 2 Tarleton State, No. 10 Colorado Mines and No. 18 Metropolitan State while Angelo State, Arkansas-Fort Smith, Texas A&M-Commerce and West Texas A&M are receiving votes.

Midwestern ranked seventh in The Sporting News Division II Preseason Top 10 and are ranked 19th in the Hero Sports/Bennett Rankings.

The Mustangs open exhibition play Sunday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum against LSU-Shreveport. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
