Café Con Leche “Empowering Communities Through Education”

Zavala Hispanic Cultural Initiative will be hosting a Café Con Leche event in collaboration with WFISD, Vernon College and Midwestern State University.

The organization was established with a strong commitment to provide the Hispanic community an opportunity to actively participate in the evolution of a greater Wichita Falls.  Since its foundation in 2002, Zavala has hosted a wide variety of cultural and educational activities including The Hispanic Leadership Banquet,The Cesar Chavez Banquet, Latin Festivals, Immigration workshops, CalleOcho Festival, and Las Posadas.  In addition, Zavala is partnering with Café Con Leche, promoting a culture of high expectations and the importance of post-secondary education.

On November 12, 2015, families, students and community stakeholders are invited to attend a Café Con Leche"Empowering Communities Through Education" Event at Vernon College, in room 605.  The English presentation will take place at 6:00 pm and end at 7:00 pm. The Spanish presentation will take place at 7:10 pm and end at 8:10 pm.

Parents and students will learn about the college application process to include scholarships and financial aid.  At this event, first generation college students will have the opportunity to win one, $1,000 scholarship from MSU, or one, $500 scholarship to Vernon College.  Student must be enrolled in either institution by fall 2016.
