Texas Woman's junior middle blocker Sara Oxford registered 15 kills on a .625 hitting percentage to lead Texas Woman's to a 3-0 victory (25-21, 25-15, 25-22) over the Midwestern State volleyball team Saturday afternoon at Kitty Magee Arena.
Oxford was able to record 15 kills on just 24 swings, committing zero errors to help Texas Woman's (22-6, 11-4 LSC) hit .248 for the match.
Senior outside hitter Hunter Porter totaled 11 kills on a team-best .321 clip to lead Midwestern State (6-22, 0-14 LSC) while freshman middle blocker Kiley Beaver and sophomore outside hitter Meghan Bettis added eight kills apiece.
A 4-0 run in the first set helped the Mustangs lead the entire set until a kill by senior setter Joey Redwine gave the Pioneers a 22-21 advantage. TWU went on to close out the frame on a 7-0 run to take a 1-0 lead with a 25-21 win.
The Mustangs claimed an early lead in the second set with Beaver recording a kill and a block alongside freshman outside hitter Kelsey Purcell to help MSU take a 7-4 lead. A 9-0 spurt by the Pioneers put TWU ahead with a 16-10 advantage before posting a 25-15 second set victory to go into halftime up 2-0.
Midwestern took a 9-4 lead to begin the third set with four different Mustangs recording kills to open the frame. However, the Pioneers trimmed down their deficit and went in front at 20-17 following a 7-1 run for the home team. The Mustangs were only able to pull back within two points down the stretch with TWU earning a 3-0 win with a 25-22 victory in the third.
