New Water Ordinance Requirements begin on Thursday

The City of Wichita Falls’ new Water Conservation/Drought Contingency Plan goes into effect on Thursday. The ordinance brings a long list of changes to the previous drought contingency plan and residence are asked to take note of the following changes.

  • style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-autospace:none;">No watering with Sprinklers from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.
  • style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-autospace:none;">No operation of irrigation (watering) systems that have broken components or leaks.
  • style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-autospace:none;">Spray irrigation cannot run down the curb for more than 50 feet.
  • style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-autospace:none;">Bubbler, drip or soaker irrigation cannot run down the curb for more than 5 feet.
  • style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-autospace:none;">If washing vehicles at home, the hose must have a positive shutoff nozzle.
  • style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-autospace:none;">Hand watering can be done anytime

Stage 1 Restrictions

Begin when the combined level of the City's water source lakes reaches 65%.

  • style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-autospace:none;">Watering is limited to two times per week based on odd-even addresses
  • style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-autospace:none;">New landscaping will require a waiver at Stage 1 rather than Stage 2.

Stage 2 Restrictions

  • style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-autospace:none;">Watering is limited to one day a week based on odd-even addresses.
  • style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-autospace:none;">Washing vehicles at a home is allowed through Stage 3.

Stage 3 Restrictions

  • style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-autospace:none;">Watering with an automatic sprinkler system is limited to one day a week between 2:00 am and 7:00 am.
  • style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-autospace:none;">Watering with a sprinkler attached to a hose can only be done between 7:00 pm and 11:00 pm.

Stages 4 and 5

  • style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-autospace:none;">No changes.

Changes to Business Restrictions:

  • style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-autospace:none;">Commercial car washes must use nozzles that discharge <3.0 gpm
  • style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-autospace:none;">Restaurants cannot serve water unless asked for by the customer.
  • style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-autospace:none;">Restaurants cannot use pre-rinse nozzles that discharge more than 1.6 gpm.
  • style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-autospace:none;">Restaurants must have a positive shutoff on the pre-rinse nozzles.
  • style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-autospace:none;">Ice machines cannot be single pass, water cooled.
  • style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-autospace:none;">Hotels/Motels/Short term lodging must offer customers a linen reuse option that is displayed in all rooms.

Water Wells and Rain Water Harvesting

  • style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-autospace:none;">Water Wells and Rain Water Harvesting Systems, with a combined container capacity exceeding 3000 gallons, must be registered with the City of Wichita Falls Public Works Department on or before May 1, 2016.
