Buyers Interested in Purchasing Bowie Memorial Hospital

Two weeks after officials thought Bowie Memorial Hospital had closed for good,  the building could soon be coming back to life.

Two buyers are interested in purchasing the hospital.

Interim CEO Lynn Heller unsealed bids for all hospital properties Monday evening. The Van Zandt Group and the Burress Group both made offers on the hospital building of $2.4 and $1.4 million, respectively. Both would change old operating procedure, and run Bowie Memorial Hospital as a for-profit hospital.

"It's a big deal," said Heller. "We have a responsibility to the people of Bowie."

Heller says that the patients shouldn't notice the difference in operations.

The board will weigh the options, as they try to resolve the $3.2 million deficit. Heller said he didn't know when the board of directors would accept a bid.

The hospital was set to be liquidated next Monday, but both potential buyers want to keep all hospital equipment.
