Mustangs soar to highest national ranking in program history -- No. 2 in D2 Media Poll

Midwestern State moved ahead two spots to No. 12 in the latest National Assocation of Basketball Coaches' Division II Rankings released Tuesday afternoon.

Midwestern State is ranked No. 2 in the latest D2 Media Poll released Tuesday afternoon by the

MSU's standing in the poll of NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors represents the highest national ranking in program history.  The Mustangs reached as high No. 3 in the NABC's final regular season rankings in 2009-10 before matching it in last week's D2 Media Poll.

Midwestern, who received two first-place votes, improved to 7-1 with win over St. Mary's (Texas) and Oklahoma Christian last week to extend their most recent winning streak to four games.

MSU is one of six teams from the South Central Region to receive mention in the poll joining No. 5 Angelo State (Texas), No. 11 Tarleton State (Texas) and No. 24 Colorado Mines while Rogers State (Okla.) and Newman (Kan.) are receiving votes.

West Liberty (W. Va.) ranked No. 1 for the second straight week after holding on for an 88-86 win over then No. 16 Fairmont State (W. Va.).

MSU, Minnesota State-Moorhead, King (Tenn.) and Angelo State round out the first five.

Midwestern State returns to action Saturday afternoon against Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.

SCHEDULE NOTE: The start time for Midwestern State's slated home game against Science & Arts (Okla.) on New Year's Eve has been moved up to 6 p.m. The game was originally slated for 7:30.
