Former Midwestern State football player Herb Whitehurst tweeted Wednesday that he's signed a professional contract with the Rostock Griffins of the German Regionalliga East.

The defensive back helped lead the Mustangs to a 10-1 record and a top seed in the Super Region IV playoffs in his senior season.

Midwestern State jumped ahead two more spots to No. 10 in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches' Division II Rankings released Tuesday afternoon.

The Mustangs extended their winning streak to five games with a 91-60 win overr Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

At 8-1, MSU is off to its best start since winning the first 13 games of the 2011-12 season.

Midwestern is one of nine teams from the South Central Region to receive mention in the poll joining No. 6 Angelo State (Texas), No. 7 Tarleton State (Texas) and No. 24 Colorado Mines while Fort Lewis (Colo.), Arkansas-Fort Smith, St. Edward's (Texas), Colorado State-Pueblo and Texas A&M-Commerce are all receiving votes.

West Liberty (W. Va.) maintained the top spot for the third straight week with Augustana (S.D.), Western Oregon, Minnesota State-Moorhead and Cal Poly Pomona rounding out the first five.

Midwestern State takes on Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) Saturday night at Bill Vining Arena in Arkadelphia. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m, a change from the originally-scheduled 7:30 tip time.

Also, the start time for Midwestern State's slated home game against Science & Arts (Okla.) on New Year's Eve has been moved up to 6 p.m. The game was originally slated for 7:30.

Mustangs Stay #2 in D2 Media Poll

Midwestern State remains at No. 2 in the latest D2 Media Poll released Tuesday afternoon by the D2 Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America.

MSU's standing in the poll of NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors represents the highest national ranking in program history. The Mustangs reached as high No. 3 in the NABC's final regular season rankings in 2009-10 before matching it in the Dec. 1 edition of the D2 Media Poll.
