WICHITA FALLS, TX - With Texas being hours away from 2016, it also means the state is hours away from new open carry policies taking effect.
Here are a few things citizens should know about the new regulations:
- Starting January 1st, 2016, Texas will become the 45th state to allow some form of “OPEN CARRY” of handguns, meaning that Texas licenses will now be become a LICENSE TO CARRY (LTC) and no longer be a CONCEALED HANDGUN LICENSE (CHL);
- Beginning January 1st, across the State of Texas, citizens will be able to prominently and lawfully wearing handguns in open view of the public.
- Current CHL holders will be “grandfathered” into the new LTC program. Meaning, once you already a holder of a valid CHL there is nothing you need to do. Do note that as of Jan. 1st, Texas will no longer issue new (or renewal) CHL’s, but begin issuing the new LTC
What you should take away from this is that licensed gun owners will not longer be required to have their weapons hidden or concealed. It should also be noted that the new law only applies to handguns and to valid licensed holders.
