VERNON, TX (KAUZ) -

Major changes are now in the works at some of the sports fields in Vernon.
This comes following a motion passed 3-2 by the Vernon I.S.D Board for three new scoreboards to be put in place.
The motion passing means a new scoreboard for the football stadium that will have a video board system as well as a sound system.
Other changes include a new scoreboard for the softball and baseball fields.
The total cost is expected to be between $313,000 and $314,000 dollars.
A little over $47,000 of that will come out of the fund balance.
Two separate entities have also given $50,000 dollars total towards the project.
A small amount of the price was also reduced.
Officials also said that without the Wind Farms, this project would not be possible.
Pattison says the baseball and softball scoreboards are at least 10 to 15 years old and the football scoreboard is at least 30 years old.
Because of how old they are, they are unable to find parts to fix them when a part stops working.
Pattison said the school plans on using the video board to create a television class at the high school.
Officials say these changes will also lead to new opportunities to advertise.
The more they can advertise, the less that has to be taken out of the fund balance.
There is currently no timetable yet on when the project will begin or be completed.
