WICHITA FALLS, TX - Wichita Falls High School standout Shayla Spearman will play NCAA Division I soccer for Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, after signing her National Letter of Intent. She officially signed back on last Wednesday's National Signing Day, but held a ceremonial signing on Monday in the Coyote Fieldhouse athletic foyer.
The reigning District 5-5A MVP, Spearman is on pace to exceed her previous career totals this season, already with 14 goals and seven assists in just 12 games played for the Lady Coyotes, who have recorded an 8-2-2 record, including a 3-0-1 district start.
The Islanders played in the Southland Conference, along with teams like Abilene Christian, Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State, and Shayla said they'd been recruiting her since the summer of her junior year, when they saw her at an "ID" camp.
She said they liked her speed and aggressive mentality, but that she would need to add some weight to her slight frame to succeed at the next level.
The Lady Coyotes' season continues Tuesday night with a visit to Saginaw Boswell.
