MSU Hoops Still Ranked, 25th in Both Polls

WICHITA FALLS, TX -

Mustangs Hang on at No. 25 in NABC Poll

Midwestern State fell 14 spots to No. 25 in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches' Division II rankings released Tuesday afternoon.

The Mustangs lost consecutive games to Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Commerce last week to fall to 16-5 on the season. MSU has dropped four consecutive games for the first time since the 2005-06 season.

Midwestern is one of five teams from the South Central Region to receive mention in the poll joining No. 10 Fort Lewis (Colo.) and No. 20 Angelo State (Texas) while West Texas A&M and Texas A&M-Commerce are receiving votes.

Tarleton State received no votes this week after seeing a run of 41 straight week in the Top 25 end last week.

Western Oregon (20-2), which received 11 of 16 first-place votes, took over for Augustana (S.D.) at No. 1 as the Vikings' NCAA Division II-best 19-game winning streak was snapped at Northern State (S.D.) last week. Augustana kept one first-place vote to fall to No. 5.

Wheeling Jesuit (W. Va.) climbed two spots to No. 2 after extending its winning streak to 17 games with a 91-82 win over then-No. 2 Fairmont State (W. Va.).

West Liberty (W. Va.) surged ahead three spots to No. 3 while Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) claimed the No. 4 spot to round out the top five.

Mustangs Also 25th in D2 Media Poll

Midwestern State extended its stay at No. 25 in the D2 Media Poll released Tuesday afternoon by the D2 Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America.

The Mustangs lost consecutive games to Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Commerce last week to fall to 16-5 on the season. MSU has dropped four consecutive games for the first time since the 2005-06 season.

Midwestern State plays host to West Texas A&M as the Highway 287 Challenge Cup series returns to D.L. Ligon Coliseum Wednesday night. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
