MSU Softball: Vinson Named LSC Hitter of the Week

WICHITA FALLS, TX - Midwestern State senior third baseman Katelyn Vinson was tabbed the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday afternoon.

The weekly honor is the third of Vinson's career and first since taking the accolade twice in April of 2013.

Vinson recorded several stellar performances at the Gulf Coast Invitational last weekend in Gulf Shores, Ala. In five games, the Southlake native batted .813 (13-for-16) with an .813 slugging percentage and .857 on base percentage while adding a team-high six runs and five walks to her stat line.

Vinson finished 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI against the nation's top-ranked team, North Georgia, on Sunday. She also batted 4-for-4 in her first appearance back since injury against Rockhurst while going 3-for-3 against North Alabama, a team receiving votes in the NFCA preseason Poll.

Midwestern State finished 3-3 at the Gulf Coast Invitational to move to 5-6 overall after two weeks of tournament play to open the season.

On the year, Vinson leads the LSC with a .667 batting average and comes in second with 16 hits in eight appearances this season.

Midwestern State returns to action this weekend at the three-day West Texas A&M Invitational in Canyon. The Mustangs begin play Friday at 1:45 p.m. as they square off against No. 12 St. Mary's (Texas) at the Buffalo Sports Park.
