LAWTON, OK (KAUZ) - The Lawton City Council has approved a new ordinance aimed at cutting down on panhandling on city streets.
Starting this week, no one will be allowed to stand on a median at any intersection in Lawton.
The ordinance was passed six to one at a council meeting on Tuesday night.
Councilman Dwight Tanner voted against the new ordinance saying he was concerned it would hamper local groups like firefighters who often raise money while standing in the medians.
Councilman Jay Burk, who introduced the ordinance, said he will work with those groups to come to a solution.
