Mustang Men 4th in Initial Regional Ranking

WICHITA FALLS, TX - Midwestern State opens the first edition of the South Central Region Rankings at No. 4 as released Wednesday afternoon by the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Committee.

The Mustangs (18-5) begin the final three games of the regular season Wednesday night at Texas A&M-Kingsville before returning home to take on Angelo State for Senior Night Saturday at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The Rams (15-4) top the rankings followed by Dallas Baptist (15-5), Fort Lewis (18-3), MSU (14-5), Colorado Mines (17-6), Lubbock Christian (Texas) (14-7), Tarleton State (13-7) and Arkansas-Fort Smith (16-6).

West Texas A&M (12-7) and Colorado Mesa (16-8) round out the rankings at Nos. 9 and 10, respectively.

The South Central Region consists of the Lone Star, Rocky Mountain Athletic and Heartland conferences. The winners of the each league's postseason tournament gains an automatic bid into the postseason while five others earn at-large access.

The top eight teams from each of the eight regions advance to the postseason which begins March 12-15 at campus sites of the top-ranked team in each region.

The winners of each regional gain a berth in the Elite Eight which is set for Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas from March 23-26.
