Vernon Police Department Is One Step Closer To New Body Cameras

VERNON, TX (KAUZ) - The Vernon Police Department is one step closer to replacing and adding new body cameras following a motion passed by city council Tuesday evening.
The motion allows the city to submit a grant application for approval for the body cameras.
The motion also stated the city would pay 25% of the grant.
The department received 22 body cameras four years ago and Vernon Police Chief Tom Wilson says they have had a positive impact.
"They have really helped in our prosecution such as assault family violence cases," Wilson said. "We've used them in burglaries. Just any call for service they use their recording body cam."
If the project goes through, it would add 13 higher quality cameras so the department could have more and replace some of the others with wear and tear.
