Texoma radio legend signs off for the last time

WICHITA FALLS, TX -

A familiar voice to many Texomans signed off for the last time Friday at a Wichita Falls radio station.

Joe Tom White has been in the business for 57 years, and he spent 23 years of that time at NewsTalk 1290.

Mike Hendren, co-host and friend of White's, said he will be missed. Hendren said he has learned a lot from him during the past 15 years the two have worked together.

Although White is saying goodbye to the radio air waves Hendren has a feeling he is not throwing in the towel yet.

“Retirement is not the right word. He actually dislikes that word,” said Hendren.
This is no surprise for a man who woke up at four in the morning for work to have a conversation with the many listeners who tune in to NewsTalk 1290.
Hendren is glad to have worked beside White all those years, and said he has learned a lot from the radio legend.

“He's been a good friend and a good coworkers and it's been a pleasure to work with him,” said Hendren.

Hendren congratulates White for all of his accomplishments including his induction into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame in 2015. The man who is famous for saying "don't you dare miss it" will indeed be missed.
However, the show will go on.
“There will be some changes and we will be launching something a little bit different. We will make a formal announcement in a couple of weeks,” said Hendren.

He adds, AM 1290 is the only news talk station in Texoma, and the team will continue to deliver a daily local show even though the radio legend has signed off.
