WICHITA FALLS, TX - The recent warmer weather and high winds may be the cause of multiple individual fires along Central Freeway.
Just before 11 p.m. Monday night, the Wichita Falls Fire Department was called out to the area around Missile Road and Central Freeway.
Battalion Chief Randall Reel said at least 20 small blazes, suspicious in nature, broke out along the busy highway. At one point, the smoke became bad enough to limit visibility to drivers, forcing the Wichita Falls Police Department to shut down the southbound Missile Road exit for a short time.
Chief Reel said within two hours, the majority of the fires had been put out.
No property damage was reported.
All thoroughfares in that area are now open.
