WICHITA FALLS, TX - Wichita Falls High School head football coach and athletic coordinator Danny Russell is leaving to return to his alma mater, he confirmed to Newschannel 6 Monday.
Russell is heading back to Garland High School, where he was defensive coordinator for a dozen years before becoming head coach of the Coyotes in 2013. He graduated from GHS in 1984.
Russell led the Coyotes to a 17-19 record in three seasons, but made 2 playoff appearances, the school's first since 2007, before a difficult 2015 season that dragged down his overall record. Still, the team was very competitive despite a 1-9 record.
The WFHS job is already posted on the WFISD web site, with a goal of filling the job by the end of the month.
