Olney ISD decides on additional upgrades for the Career and Technology Education Center

OLNEY, TX (KAUZ)

Board members from the Olney Independent School District are adding more upgrades to the Career and Technology Education Center, and this is all going to happen with money from the districts general fund.
More than $400,000 is going to be used to construct a parking lot the size of a football field for the CTE Center,
adding a street leading to the building and sidewalks.

Some of the things that are not totally necessary, but in the long haul they will save the district some money, said Dr. Robert Roach.
These items are not included in the base bid, however Superintendent Dr. Roach said the board members are very frugal with their funds.
Decisions like choosing concrete over asphalt for the parking lot were made at Monday nights meeting, with not only the district in mind, but also tax payers.
For the construction of the CTE, the district has a contingency fee of about $120,000 for cost that may come up during construction, but are not planned for.
Ground breaking for the center will take place in a month, and the building is expected to be up and running late fall.
Board members also talked about the renovations to the junior high and said they are making good progress.
As of now, the roof construction is finished, although new gas pipes will be put in at no extra charge to the district because the roofing company made an error and is claiming responsibility.
