Mustangs finish 10th at St. Edward's Invitational

"Not what we were hoping for," MSU coach Jeff Ray said. "We struggled in all aspects. From 80 yards and in we did not take advantage of the opportunities."

Senior Ian Gallagher closed strong with three birdies in his final five holes to score a team-low 3-over 73. The senior from Highland Village logged totals of 80 and 72 over the first two rounds to finish tied for 53rd with a three-round tally of 225 (+15).

MSU's top three bags posted matching 4-over 74s in the final round to provide the Mustangs with countable scores.

The Mustangs slipped five places on the team leader board in the final round, while Colorado-Colorado Springs proved to be the big mover combining for a tournament-low round of 272 (8-under) to surge into a tie for the top spot with Central Missouri.

The Mules, which finished with an 11-over total of 851, claimed the title by virtue of a fifth-score tiebreaker.

Western New Mexico senior Calum Hill earned individual medalist honors firing impressive scores of 66, 65 and 69 for a 10-under total of 200 to win the tournament by eight strokes.

MSU's Colton Dorion tied for 62nd with a 19-over total of 229 despite boasting two countable rounds, while freshman Clayton Meyers tied for 60th with a three-round total of 228 (+18) competing as an individual.

"This is a lot my fault as we have had limited practice with our short game this semester," Ray said. "Next week is a very big tournament for our regional hopes."
