Christian highlights MSU Pro Day

WICHITA FALLS, TX -

Midwestern State hosted 22 NFL scouts for Pro Day Tuesday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

Coveted safety Marqui Christian garnered attention putting solid outcomes with 14 reps in the 225-pound bench press while testing out with 35-inch vertical and 120-inch broad jumps.

The Spring, Texas native who measured out at 5-10 and 195 pounds also generated 40-yard times of 4.44 running with the wind and 4.59 going against the wind while posting a  6.83 time in the three-cone drill.

Christian's measurables proved favorable Boise State two-time All-America safety Darian Thompson, who graded out with a 4.69 40, 12 bench press reps, a 32.5-inch vertical jump, a 118-inch broad jump and a 7.26-second three-cone drill at last month's NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

Thompson ranks third on Tim Mayock's list of top safeties and was 20th on Sports Illustrated's Big Board by Chris Burkes. The Broncos' all-time leader in interceptions (18) is bigger though at 6-2 and 208 pounds.

Christian, who received the Cliff Harris Award as the top defensive player in the country representing Division II, Division III and NAIA, has piled on postseason accolades becoming MSU's first defensive player since 1952 to earn Associated Press Little All-America honors taking second team honors.

Christian was a first-team All-America selection by the American Football Coaches' Association (AFCA), D2CCA (sports information directors) and D2Football.com teams after gaining J.V. Sikes/Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Year and top defensive back honors as a three-time, first-team All-LSC performer.

Christian closed his Midwestern State career as the program's all-time tackle leader with 295.

Joining Christian for pro day were teammates Alpha Kamara, Dominic Williams, Dominque Rouse, Brandon Gordon, Levy Wilson, Terrence Smith, Arsenio Phillips, Derek Lockhart and Tari Jones.
