Bowie gas station pumps money into the school district

BOWIE, TX (KAUZ) -

The owners of Ashley Douglas located at 1001 East Wise in Bowie are fueling education by donating to the Bowie Independent School District.
Two cents for every gallon of gas purchased from the station
s Pride Pump will go to the district.

The program revved up Monday, and many people stopped by to fuel up.
Mark Ashley, the President of Ashley Douglas, said his family has gone to Bowie Schools for generations.

I know the schools are always needing money, and it's just something they can use it for anything they need. I just think it will help the school system and the community as a whole, said Ashley.
Steven Monkres, the Bowie ISD Superintendent, said he is unsure of how the money will be spent, but said supplies are needed.

That money will go directly to our students.  Obviously in these days and times, every school district could use every extra penny that they can get to help our kids succeed, said Monkres.
The station is not only unique because of the new program.
It is also one of the only ones with conventional gas.

It has no ethanol in it, and we have people that come from Fort Worth, Decatur, Jacksboro and Bridgeport. You cant really buy this gas anywhere south of here, said Ashley.
Loyal customer Rusty Willingham said his company fills up its entire fleet here because it offers conventional gas.
Now that the gas station has another premium perk, he said he will be using the
Pride Pump for sure.

I'll make sure I come over here.  I got a kid in school, and they need every bit of help they can get, said Willingham.

The station sells about 500,000 gallons a year and makes nearly 80 transactions a day.
Mark Ashley said he hopes business will continue to increase.

The program will be in place from now on, and Ashley said if the total sales of the station stay the same, it will be able to donate almost $6,000 to the district a year.
