Mustangs Pair Earn LSC Weekly Honors

Schorlemmer Earns 2nd-Straight Weekly Award

WICHITA FALLS, TX - After an 8-0 weekly record and becoming a member of the 100-win club, Midwestern State senior Maddie Schorlemmer was named the Lone Star Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, league officials announced Thursday afternoon.

Schorlemmer became the eighth player in Midwestern State women's tennis history to reach 100 career wins Wednesday in MSU's 8-1 win over LSC foe Tarleton State in Stephenville. The Argyle native teamed up with freshman Greta Lazzarotto at No. 3 doubles to post an 8-1 victory and eclipse the 100-win plateau. She also recorded a 6-4, 6-1 win in singles action to improve to 101-34 (.748) for her career and move to seventh on the all-time wins list at MSU.

For the week, Schorlemmer collected four straight-set wins at No. 1 singles with three wins coming against players ranked in the top 10 in the South Central Region in No. 4 Jamie Lee Denton (St. Mary's), No. 7 Ana Banic (Dallas Baptist) and No. 10 Ashleigh Elward (Tarleton State). Schorlemmer's win over Denton, who is ranked 44th in the national singles rankings, was also her first over a nationally-ranked Division II opponent since defeating St. Mary's No. 35 Cristina Lopez in her first career dual match back on Feb. 16, 2013. Ranked 27th nationally and second in the region, Schorlemmer is now 11-5 on the season with a 10-4 mark at No. 1 singles.

In doubles play, Schorlemmer and Lazzarotto posted a perfect 4-0 slate on the week to push their winning streak to eight matches and improve to an impressive 15-2 on the season.

The 20th-ranked Mustangs return home for a pair of matches against NJCAA opponents Friday at the MSU Tennis Center. The Mustangs begin the day against Collin College (Texas) at 10 a.m. before facing off against Seward County (Kan.) at 3 p.m.

Baker Named LSC Golfer of the Week

Midwestern State's Jared Baker garnered Lone Star Conference Golfer of the Week honors after claiming his first individual tournament win earlier this week at the Dallas Baptist Classic.

The junior from Holliday fired an 8-under total of 208 at the par-72, 7,064-yard course at the Hackberry Creek Country Club for a two-stroke victory over St. Edward's University's Jay Hogan.

Baker matched his career low round with back-to-back 68s and followed up with an even-par 72 in the final round.

He posted 35 pars, 12 birdies and an eagle on the final hole of tournament play to clinch the win.

Baker notched sub-par scores in four of his last seven rounds boasting a stroke average 70.7 during the stretch. Baker's previous best finish came with an 8th-place showing at The Territory Classic in October of 2014.

Midwestern State's second round total of 279 matches the sixth lowest team total in program history and is the lowest since the Mustangs fired a 276 (-2) at the 2013 DBU Classic. Junior Thomas Smith carded a 67 to go along with Baker's second 68 of the day while juniors Colton Dorion and Luke Thomas turned in quality scores of 71 and 73, respectively.

The Mustangs compete in the Lone Star Conference Championship from April 18-20 at Frisco (Texas) Lakes Golf Club.
