Recent Gun Grabs in Wichita Falls

WICHITA FALLS, TX - A recent string of vehicle burglaries has the Wichita Falls Police Department on high alert.
This is because firearms are what's being stolen and Sgt. Harold McClure said these vehicles were left unlocked. The firearms left unsecured.

"A lot of times people throw it in their glove box and even if they lock the glove box of their vehicle that can easily be defeated so it's not a very secure lock," Sgt. McClure said.

Newschannel 6 spoke to a few residents who were victims of home and car burglaries. One said she was not surprised at the recent string of crimes.

"There's a lot of crime going on especially with gangs and different things like that and a lot of violence," Shannon Jones of Wichita Falls said.

One man was the victim of a car burglary.

"I had a jacket in the backseat of my car and somebody got in and took it and that was the end of it, it was gone," James Lanham of Wichita Falls said.

When it comes to making sure your belongings don't get in the hands of criminals, Sgt. McClure said to follow some simple tips.

"Lock your car, take your keys, hide your belongings. It's real quick simple and easy and it'll keep a firearm out unwanted hands," Sgt. McClure said.
Another way to keep your valuables accounted for if they ever end up stolen is by storing information on ReportIt
