Nighthawks Set for Friday Home Matchup

WICHITA FALLS, TX -

The Wichita Falls Nighthawks will look to bounce back Friday night as they host Cedar Rapids in a big game at the Kay Yeager Coliseum.

The Nighthawks (4-2) lead the Titans (5-3) by one game in the loss column in the race for the playoffs, and this is their only meeting of the season so a potential tiebreaker is on the line.

Cedar Rapids is led on offense by quarterback Dylan Favre, who is Hall of Famer Brett Favre's nephew. The younger Favre is tied for the IFL lead in passing touchdowns with 28 so far this year.

Some bad news for the Nighthawks is that they still will not have quarterback Charles McCullum, who is nursing a separated shoulder he suffered against Tri-Cities on April 9th. Newly-signed Mike Wegzyn and wide receiver Jordan Jolly split duties under-center in the Nighthawks' 71-44 loss at Sioux Falls on Saturday night.

League Adds New Franchise

The Indoor Football League announced an unusual new expansion team for 2017 on Thursday, which will be based in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The as-yet-unnamed team will be run by "Project FANchise", which bills itself as a "crowd-sourced, real-time engagement platform" that will be completely run by real-time votes of its fans. All aspects of running the team, from naming and merchandising, to hiring of a front office and even analyzing game film and scouting reports, will be crowdsourced by the company's proprietary engagement software.

The team is set to start play next season at the Maverick Center in Salt Lake City.
