Mustangs fall to top-seeded Cameron in LSC title match

WICHITA FALLS, TX - The Midwestern State women's tennis team's run at a third-straight Lone Star Conference Championship fell short Saturday afternoon as the Mustangs stumbled to top-seeded Cameron in the title match at the MSU Tennis Center, 5-2.

At No. 3 doubles, senior Maddie Schorlemmer and junior Abby White coasted to an 8-2 win over Samantha Wood and Mathilde Thibaudat to put the Mustangs ahead early. With the victory, Schorlemmer moved into sixth on the MSU all-time wins list after pushing her career dual record to 112-39 (.742).

The Aggies came away with one point in doubles with the 15th-ranked duo of Alina Gorina and Zhenia Shviadok defeating senior Lindsay Nochowicz and freshman Eirini Kontaki on court one, 8-2.

Cameron came out swinging in singles action, taking first sets on all six courts to switch the momentum to the No. 1 seed. Gorina evened the match at 2-2 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Kontaki at No. 2 singles before Torres propelled the Aggies into the lead with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Clifton at No. 4.

Thibaudat followed with a 7-5, 6-1 win over White on court six before Shviadok recorded the clincher just moments later with a 6-2, 7-6 (0) decision over Lazzarotto at No. 3 singles for the 5-2 final.
