WICHITA FALLS, TX - Another pair of Wichita Falls High School soccer standouts signed to play at the next level Tuesday.
Forward Manny Santamaria and goalkeeper Mitchell Kurtz both signed with Texas junior colleges.
Kurtz, on the same day he was named a second-team all-state goal keeper by the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches, signed with Hill College in Hillsboro.
He told Newschannel 6 that he owes Tuesday's honors, both the signing and the recognition, to his teammates and coaches at Old High.
"I really can't thank my teammates and coaches enough for the past couple of years," Kurtz said. "It's really been a blessing being able to watch our team grow. With this next upcoming level, I think it's going to be a really good transition and hopefully I'll be ready for it."
Santamaria, the team's top scorer this season with 21 goals, will continue his career at Western Texas College in Snyder. He was named second-team all-Region I-5A by TASCO on Tuesday.
"It feels great," he said. "Ever since I was little, I always wanted to play soccer the rest of my life. And I can still go to the next level and keep doing what I love to do."
