Kirby student qualifies for national competition

WICHITA FALLS, TX - An 8th grader at Kirby World Academy has come up with an idea that has her heading to nationals.
Sonya Ganeshram entered the eCYBERMISSION competition with a couple of friends.
Ganeshram came up with a bracelet for deaf people, called Artemis, that vibrates when alarms go off.
Ganeshram says the deaf community is often overlooked and she wants to help.
"The deaf community is often overlooked in these problems," Ganeshram said. "It is only a community consisting of about 70 million people. Compared to the world population, that is a small number. But those people are lives, people who matter and I want to help them become more secure and safe."
Ganeshram made tweaks to the bracelet so that it can now take outputs from deaf security systems and carbon monoxide censors to detect a gas leak.
Congratulations and good luck to Ganeshram and her friends.
