WICHITA FALLS, TX - They had to wait almost until it was time to leave, but the Wichita Falls Wildcats finally learned who they'll be playing at this week's Robertson Cup Tournament in Minnesota.
The second-seed Wildcats will face the third-seeded Bismarck (ND) Bobcats, 4-0 winners over the Austin (MN) Bruins Monday night in Game 5 of the Central Division finals. That series starts Thursday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m. (CT) at the Braemar Arena in Edina, Minnesota.
The other semifinal will pit the league's top seed, the Fairbanks (AK) Ice Dogs, against the #4 Aston (PA) Rebels. That series starts Thursday at 4:30 p.m. On Friday the start times will be the same, with the Wildcats and Bobcats playing at 7:30 after the Ice Dogs and Rebels play the early, 4:30 p.m. game. If necessary, Saturday's deciding games will see the Aston/Fairbanks series go first again, at 3 p.m., followed by the Wildcats and Bismarck at 6 p.m.
The NAHL Robertson Cup Championship Game will be Sunday at 1 p.m., featuring the two semifinal winners.
Monday, the Wildcats went through their final full team practice in Wichita Falls of the season, but they will have a morning skate and optional afternoon free skate on Tuesday, before hitting the road.
There will be a sendoff at 7 p.m. in front of the Kay Yeager Coliseum, for a Wildcats team that shattered almost every franchise record worth breaking in a banner 2015-16 season.
