IOWA PARK, TX (KAUZ) - Multi-sport standout Gerrit Deatherage signed to play baseball at Wayland Baptist University Thursday.
The Pioneers are a nationally-ranked NAIA program, currently playing in the National Tournament this week.
Gerrit knows something about playing at a strong program, as he and his teammates leave Iowa Park in a much better place than they found it.
"I wanted to win State, but that never happened, obviously," Deatherage said. "But I mean, we won a lot of gold glove [playoff trophies], so that's something to be proud of. We won district for three years in a row, so that's something to be proud of. We brought winning back to Iowa Park. You know, for a few years we weren't very good at much."
Of the nine starters on Iowa Park's 2014 Regional Finalist team, six have gone on to sign to play in college.
