The Windthorst Trojanette softball team is making its final preparations for a trip to State this week.
They will depart from the high school Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. for the Class 2A state softball tournament at the University of Texas in Austin.
It's the first trip to state in softball for the Trojanettes since they won Texoma's last softball state title, back in 2005.
Head Coach Lonnie Hise, who is also the school principal and the father of junior third baseman Emily Hise, says this is something he's been waiting a long time for.
"It's amazing," he said Monday. "It's just one of those things where, all your career, all your life, this is what you're going for. I've been to the state track meet a couple times, but with a team sport like this, there's no feeling like it."
"We've wanted this for a long time," his daughter added. "It's really special since we've worked so hard and it finally paid off. We're finally here."
"I never would have thought that we would actually make it this far," admitted the team's senior ace pitcher, Cy Schroeder. "But it's definitely surreal. I don't think it's sunk in yet, until we leave tomorrow, but it's exciting and I'm ready to be down there."
Newschannel 6 Sports Director Adam Ostrow will be in Austin with the Trojanettes all week bringing you the highlights and reaction as they go for their third state softball championship!
