WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - The Wichita Falls Nighthawks are getting set for their final regular-season home game of the year this Saturday night. But if they can take care of business the rest of the way, it may not be their final home game this summer.
The Nighthawks (9-4) sit a half-game behind Cedar Rapids (10-4) for the second seed in the United Conference, but have a game in-hand, and own the head-to-head tiebreaker. Both teams have already clinched a playoff spot.
If the Nighthawks win out, or if they win two of three and Cedar Rapids drops one of their two games left, Wichita Falls would host a first-round playoff game on July 9th against the Titans. The winner of that game will travel to Sioux Falls to face the Storm (13-1), who have already locked up the top seed in the conference.
The Nighthawks will host the Colorado Crush (2-12) this Saturday night at 7:05 at the Kay Yeager Coliseum, before finishing the regular season with trips to Iowa and Green Bay the following two weeks.
On Wednesday Nighthawks kick returner Tyler Williams was honored as the Indoor Football League's Special Teams Player of the Week.
It's his fourth Player of the Week honor of the season, with three on special teams to go along with one on offense.
In Saturday's 81-40 rout of Green Bay, Williams returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, then added two more scores on the ground and one in the air, finishing with 263 all-purpose yards and four total touchdowns.
