WICHITA FALLS, TX - Many Texomans came out to the Wichita Falls Animal Services Center, for their community wide adoption Saturday.
The event showcased the adoptable dogs and cats from six different local rescue groups and shelters.
It was all in an effort to highlight the number of homeless pets in our community, and to shed a light on the need for citizens to choose to adopt first and adopt locally.
"On average, just here at Animal Services in Wichita Falls, we bring in 350 dogs and cats every single month. That's been a pretty steady number for the last several years. If you have a litter of 10 puppies, statistics show that 9 of them are going to end up in the shelter the first year," said Karena Mitchell, the Animal Services Administrator.
This event coincides with the national Just One Day Campaign to have all shelters across the nation not euthanize any animals for the day.
