HENRIETTA, TX (KAUZ) - A long drought kept a public pool in Clay Co. virtually unusable. But when heavy rains brought Texoma out of the drought city officials in Henrietta had a choice to make.
"Our water source comes from Lake Arrowhead," city administrator Kelley Bloodworth said.
Which is why for the last two years the city pool in Henrietta was closed.
"Our pool was built in 1952, so it was very antiquated," Bloodworth said.
When the drought ended city officials had to decide whether they were going to be in the pool business or not. But the pool that stood there before was not up to code.
"We brought it to the council. We got some quotes and decided that we really wanted to tear out the old pool and move forward and build a new pool," Bloodworth said.
After getting a total face lift, on May 31st, the new and improved pool was opened to the public.
From awesome slides to a six-inch ledge for little swimmers city officials are pleased they can provide this to a deserving community.
"We have heard nothing but great things from the community. They're excited about it and we're just hoping for a good summer and good weather that they can use it," Bloodworth said.
The pool is open Monday through Saturday from Noon to 5:00 pm. Tuesday and Thursday evening there is a night swim from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. It costs $3 for day swim times and $2 for evening swim times. All other evenings will be available for those looking to book the pool for parties. Call 940-538-0493 for more information.
