Juneteenth celebration in Wichita Falls

WICHITA FALLS, TX - At Spudder Park in Wichita Falls members of the community came out for the city's Juneteenth celebration on Saturday.

Juneteenth celebrates the day slaves in Galveston found out slavery had been abolished, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect.

There was a car show, food, snow cones, and the program Reading is Power handed out books.
Those who attended the event said Juneteenth is about joy.
"It's a time for the community to come together and enjoy, without all the craziness. There's very few times we get to just come together and just enjoy," said James Hicks, owner of Coolie's Ice.
