Car erupts in flames on highway

WICHITA COUNTY, TX (KAUZ) - Two people are lucky to be alive after their car burst into flames on the highway.

Just before midnight Thursday night, Iowa Park Police and Fire, as well as Wichita County Sheriff's Deputies, responded to a call for a car on fire on U.S. 287 near 368.

Iowa Park PD says a couple was traveling southbound on 287 in their 2013 Chevy Malibu when they noticed smoke coming from the vents.

When they slowed down and pulled over on the shoulder, the car burst into flames.

Luckily, both occupants made it out safely with no injuries.

Iowa Park Fire was able to get the blaze put out in a little more than half an hour.

Traffic along 287 was at a standstill during that time, but all lanes are now open.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
