WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) -

Wichita Falls Nighthawks first-year head coach Billy Back has been named the Indoor Football League Coach of the Year, the IFL announced Friday.

Back led the team to an 11-5 regular-season record and its first playoff appearance in the IFL, turning around a team that was 5-9 in its first season indoors.

Back built the league's number-one offense, with quarterback Charles McCullum. The team led the league in points per game (62.6), total yards per game (298.6) and passing yards per game (226.3), ranking second in rushing touchdowns (53) and red zone conversion (75%).

Five Nighthawks players were named All-IFL this year, including McCullum, receiver Jordan Jolly, running back Tyler Williams, kicker Rockne Belmonte and nose tackle Walter Thomas.

The rest of the league's special honors will be announced next week.
