Hometown Pride Tour: The history of Iowa Park

IOWA PARK, TX (KAUZ) - We are continuing our Hometown Pride Tour in Iowa Park highlighting the history of the town and the fire of 1891.
D.C. and A.J Kolp founded the community in 1891 on the Forth Worth and Denver City Railway.
The settlement was called Daggett Switch.
It got the name from a switch on the railroad track.
Shortly after in 1891 Iowa Park was incorporated.
That same year a fire burned much of the town.
Iowa Park was then rebuilt and developed into an agricultural marketing center.
A short time later the rail connection became very useful to ship wheat and cotton that was produced on area farms.
In the 1950's the town entered a period of growth after becoming an oil, grain and cotton center.
The population was a little over 2,000 at the time.
Currently more than 6,000 people reside in the community.
