Hometown Pride Tour: Iowa Park's Lakes

IOWA PARK, TX (KAUZ) - We rushed our way to Iowa Park on our Hometown Pride Tour and stopped at Gordon Lake.
It sits right off highway 287, so you can see it from the highway.
Because of that, the lake gets more than just locals.
People stop to get their picture taken in front of the giant flag pole, to walk the walking trail and much more.
However, Buffalo Lake and Lake Iowa Park provide even more options.
"There are people at Gordon Lake every day from the time the sun goes up until it goes down," Director of Parks and Recreation, Robbie Matthews said. "It is a busy lake and that is a good thing for the community. We have a lot of our activities and events there. We also have two more lakes. Lake Iowa Park is a good recreational lake for boating and swimming. Buffalo Lake is known for fishing."
Matthews said you will find most locals at Gordon Lake.
"Gordon Lake is the lake we have right in the middle of town," Matthews said. "It's our main recreation lake. We've got walking tracks around it, exercising equipment, pavilions and playgrounds. There are activities going on all the time."
Gordon Lake is also known for the giant flag pole next to the lake.
Matthews said being right off highway 287 brings more than just locals.
"Being right off highway 287, the passerby's see it and we get a lot of people that stop, comment and compliment us on this lake," Matthews said. "It brings a lot of people that are not aware of what the small town has to offer. We have the lakes and it brings people to our local downtown stores and things like that. It is a really good impact for the community."
Gordon Lake holds numerous events each year including Kids Fish Fest, the local 4th of July celebration and parties at the pavilion.
Matthews said it is more than just a lake.
"People come out here for more than just the water," Matthews said. "We have the pavilion rented out for parties, the playground, walking track and exercise equipment. People are here all the time. It is not just for the fishing or lake activities. There is just a lot to do around the lake."
Matthews said that during the Christmas season you will find lit up floating trees and Christmas angels on the lake.
There is a memorial bench at the park to honor former Lakeview pastor, Tommy Porter, who had a heart attack and lost his life on the walking trail.
