Preparing To Go Back To School

Preparing To Go Back To School

WICHITA FALLS, TX -

Just like student’s teachers are preparing for the upcoming school year. Teachers in the WFISD are adjusting to a lot of new things including new start/stop times and the integration of some new technology.

This year all sixth grade students in the WFISD are going to be using Google Chromebooks to complete most of their assignments both in class and at home. The students will return the Google Chromebooks at the end of the school year and then have the device reassigned to them for both the seventh and eighth grades. Cunningham Elementary School Assistant Principal Gena Ayers said her teachers are preparing to help those students with that learning transition.

"Teachers will have a chance to get used to some of the new technology inside the classrooms and have received additional training on those Google Chromebooks," said Assistant Principal Ayers.

All schools in the WFISD have new start and stop times for the upcoming year. To view the new scheduled start/stop times for all 27 WFISD schools you can click HERE! Assistant Principal said the new hours will take some getting used to but her school and others in WFISD are ready for the changes.

"One of the adjustments we've made for the start/stop time was changing the drop off and pick up procedures," said Assistant Principal Ayers.

Over the past week Assistant Principal Ayers and all educators in WFISD have been taking part in staff development, including learning the districts new evaluation system. Educators have also been collaborating with other teachers to develop lesson plans and master schedules for all students.

"We know that parents are chomping at the bit to know which homeroom their kids are getting, which they will find out at meet the teacher. So making all the final touches on those aspects, making kind of the behind the scenes work that goes on way before kids actually step foot into the door," said Assistant
Principal Ayers.

Meet The Teacher Night takes place later this afternoon and going into the evening at most elementary schools in the WFISD. To find out if your school is hosting tonight click HERE to navigate the campus information for each WFISD school. Beyond simply getting to know their child’s educator parents can also learn about the new WFISD Skyward Family Access which is a portal that allows parents to view grades, projects, and assignments. You can click HERE to view the WFISD Skyward Family Access.
