WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) -

For the second-straight season, Midwestern State junior Courtney Burnette has been named the Lone Star Conference Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year, league officials announced Thursday afternoon.

Burnette was joined on the LSC preseason player of the year list by Angelo State's Haley Mendel (Offensive) and Texas A&M-Commerce's Vicky Back (Defensive).

In 2015, Burnette was selected LSC Honorable Mention after finishing with a 1.02 goals against average and .798 save percentage, totaling 75 saves and 19 goals against in 1,678 minutes between the posts. She joined forces with the MSU back line in posting seven shutouts for the fourth most in a single season in program history, ranking third in the LSC with .389 shutouts per game.

The Irving native has made starts in goal for the Mustangs in all 37 contests over the last two seasons, earning LSC Goalkeeper of the Year accolades as a redshirt freshman in 2014. For her career, Burnette has posted a 0.93 goals against average and recorded 13 shutouts for third in the MSU career record books. She comes in fourth in program history in saves per game (4.92), sixth in wins (16) and saves (182) and seventh in save percentage (.835).

The Mustangs were tabbed fifth in the LSC Preseason Poll yesterday by the league's head coaches, sports information directors and media representatives.

Midwestern State opens the 2016 season Thursday, Sept. 1 with a 6 p.m. (CT) kickoff against Regis (Colo.) at the Regis Match Pitch in Denver. The Mustangs make their home debut Sunday, Sept. 11 at 12 p.m. when they play host to Fort Lewis (Colo.) at MSU Soccer Field.
