WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - Midwestern State took the pitch for the first home exhibition of the 2016 season Tuesday evening, collecting a 2-0 shutout victory over NAIA No. 6 Oklahoma Wesleyan at MSU Soccer Field.

The Midwestern defense held strong throughout the match, not allowing OKWU to record a shot on goal for the night. The 7th-ranked Mustangs went on the board first following a strike from Gabriel Cavalcantein the 23rd minute. A long pass from Sebastian Venegas was misplayed by goalkeeper Luca Stojanvoic and went towards the right post before Cavalcante tapped the ball in for a 1-0 MSU lead.

The Mustangs added another score in the 66th minute as a cross from Jorge DeLeon found Kyle Baccuson the left side of the pitch before firing into the right corner of the net for the 2-0 final.

Midwestern State kicks off the regular season Friday, Sept. 2 with a 4 p.m. (CT) kickoff against Fort Lewis at Dirks Field in Durango, Colo.
