WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - Students at McNiel Middle School will be heading back to school after an emotional weekend where two of their classmates were shot, one was killed.
"Our goal is to get as back to normal as possible, which normal is now changed," WFISD superintendent Michael Kuhrt said.
The main concern is getting these kids taken care of.
"We have about ten or so additional counselors that are WFISD counselors that will be here on campus and we have an area set up where we're going to be working with individual kids or in small groups as they need them," Kuhrt said.
Betsy Hamilton, coordinator for the Crisis Intervention Team said these services will be 'need based' but students will be getting the emotional support they need.
"We certainly want to do as counselors and staff members everything that we can do help our students and our teachers and our families to work through this," Hamilton said.
District officials said several community agencies have reached out to the district offering services for students. A compiled list can be found here.
Kuhrt said extra counselors will be on hand at all middle schools and nearby elementary schools through at least Thursday.
