WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - If you head out to the Texas/Oklahoma this week you are sure to have a great time. There are games, thrilling rides, and good food at the fair, but having fun is just one reason to go.
The Founders Lion Club donates all the proceeds from the Texas/Oklahoma Fair to 21 local nonprofit organizations.
Habitat for Humanity of Wichita Falls is just one local nonprofit to receive a donation.
"The monies that we receive go to buy supplies to build the next house: wood, shingles or concrete. Without the donations, we would not be able to build houses... It's about $45,000 to $50,000 to build a house that has 3 to 4 bedrooms, so all the donations that come in make those homes possible," said Carla Dowlen, the Director of Marketing and Development at Habitat for Humanity of Wichita Falls.
Cameron Ward, the Chairman of the Texas/Oklahoma Fair, said the Founders Lion Club typically raises $50,000-$75,000 a year.
