Hurricane Experiences: Man tells Texoma what it is like to live in a Hurricane

As Hurricane Matthew makes its way to the east coast, a Florida resident living in Texoma wanted to give an inside look at how dangerous the storm really is for his fellow Floridians.
Chris Harris has been living in the Sunshine State for 37 years and has been through 3 hurricanes.
The current storm is not only threatening his home but his family.
"It's scary," said Harris.   "It sounds just like a freight train, like people describe a tornado, but it doesn't last three or four minutes it last hours upon hours upon hours."
Harris moved to Florida in 1979 and has seen what a hurricane can do.
"In the 2004 hurricanes, I went without lights for 7 days," said Harris.  "Then another hurricane came.  It was like Hiroshima there were entire neighborhoods that were just gone "
So far, Matthew has taken the lives of more than 100 people, and as it makes its way to the east coast, the people that live there are left with two options.  Get out or get ready.
While Texoma may not experience Matthew first hand, volunteers are ready to step up and help the victims.
"Yesterday afternoon the phones started ringing," said Katrina Farmer, Director of Local American Red Cross.  "Today we had a couple more saying they want to help."
She says the volunteers is what makes the red cross special.
"Our volunteers really get the mission," said Farmer.  "The mission to elevate human suffering following a disaster. That's huge."
Some of those volunteers come from disaster themselves, many remembering what it was like during Hurricane Katrina and what the Red Cross did for them.
"They understand that," said Farmer.  "They've seen the big bad storms, so they're ready to go to Matthew and help the people there.  These are very dedicated volunteers.  They don't take it casually.  They've already got their bags packed and they are waiting for the call to get to go."
